Meanderings

Old age brings interesting changes. Inability to sleep is one. My body hurts (fibromialgia) and I'm tired from 6 high stress weeks at school. But unable to sleep even with a sleeping pill, I got up and participated in the sacred routine of dunking cookies. It is a ritual. In this case lemon iced cookies in chocolate milk. Raised in the Great Depression, my dad used bread and milk. Principle is the same: mediation.

Question arose in my mind regarding the purpose of life. It has been said we are here to be tested. With decades of testing under my belt, both administrating and receiving, my conclusion is that testing is one the shallowist means of measureing an individual possible. Surely our God can do better than that. If our eternal happiness and progression is based on passing a test, then our God is not a very effective leader and teacher. Reasons of this conclusion are many, if any care to ask.

What is the nature of life's so-called test: pass/fail? Many frightening people cling tenaciously o that one. That is popular right now. How about multiple choice? A segment of society find that apalling, as they should. An essay, written by our lifes? Better, but some of us are not good writers. Multiple choiec? Many curdle at that thought as being too ambiguous. So the question becomes even more what kind of test, if we have any hopes of passing it. The older I get, the more I doubt passing a test is the primary purpose of life.

Though I may present few answers, I hope to present some thought proking questions to those who are mature enought not to be frightened by searching queries. I do have a testimony, but that will be shared after the questions to follow.

Good night for now.

I'd like to say that I disagree with the consensus that we are here to be tested by God.

God being omnicient, he already knows what we are capable of, and how we will handle our earthly situations. The point was not to prove ourselves to God, but to prove our capabilities to OURSELVES. There was no better way to help us progress than to let us leave the nest and learn how to fly.

It lends credence to agency and accountability. We are different and individual. That is why we are advised not to judge eachother. Because we don't have enough information about ANYONE. But God the Father does. He knew, He knows and we are learning.

It's awesome! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Love you.

I agree with Sayyadina (love the meaning of that name by the way) and furthermore if Life is just a test I think she would pass the essay with flying colors!!
It is said that all of these 'experiences' shall be for thy good - so I think we are here to learn from all of our experiences, good and bad so that we are prepared for what God has in store for us in the future. I know for myself that I need to do better at learning and enjoying instead of analyzing to death all of my experiences.
Love you and look forward to your testimony and conclusion!

I have learned/decided that some things in life need to be taught or explained to us in "kindergarten" terms. As we gain experience, knowledge, wisdom (application of knowledge) and other traits, I would imagine we become spiritually "bored" with the idea of being tested. Just like a seventh grader would be bored to tears with a kindergarten math lesson, some of us are ready to move on to new ideas, terminology and concepts. I think it's okay for kindergartners in the Gospel to use the simple terminology of being tested. They will learn and grow, and along with the rest of us, eventually feel a little bit of senioritis because we are ready to graduate and move on. Enjoy the journey!

Perhaps just a test to see what we'll do? " ...the Final Judgment is not just an evaluation of a sum total of good and evil acts—what we have done. It is an acknowledgment of the final effect of our acts and thoughts—what we have become." -Oaks. I look forward to future musings.
